Disability bill consultative meetings start next Sunday

CHIREDZI – Consultations on the Disability Bill will start on May 12, and senator representing People with Disabilities (PWDs) Annah Shiri is urging all PWDs to attend the meetings and air their concerns.
She told PWDs in Chiredzi on Tuesday during a meeting to gather their concerns at Chitsanga Hall that they should participate in the consultative meetings for the bill to reflect their needs.
Shiri was accompanied by Senator Ishmael Zhou. They are on a nationwide tour where they are engaging PWDs on issues affecting them. They have engaged PWDs in Binga, Victoria Falls, Gwanda, Beitbridge and Masvingo.
Representatives from the of Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Public Service Commission (PSC), Childline and District Development Coordinator (DDCs) office attended the meeting.
“Disability Bill consultative meetings will begin on May 12, 2024, and you will be notified when the meeting will be held in Chiredzi. Please attend in numbers so that your concerns will be included in the bill,” she said.
Senator Zhou also urged PWDs to participate and have leaders from village level.
Chiredzi Ward 7 junior councillor Tariro Shoko who a PWD applauded the meeting and hailed the senators for urging PWDs to attend the consultative meetings.
“I am happy with the engagement meeting. I think there should be more of these visits to boost our confidence.
