SHURUGWI – Police in the Midlands have arrested a Shurugwi man who allegedly stabbed and killed a patron at a bar who intervened during a fight.
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the matter to The Mirror.
He said Tawanda Mativenga (35) was arrested for allegedly stabbing Luckmore Kombayi (31) once in the chest.
The incident happened on Saturday at Chamagomana Business Centre in Shurugwi around 8 pm.
Circumstances are that Mativenga approached Benson Machisa (25) who was playing snooker with Kombayi.
Mativenga shouted at Machisa and charged towards him. He allegedly grabbed him by the collar.
Kombayi intervened to stop the fracas. Mativenga then allegedly stabbed him once in the chest. He bled profusely and died on the spot.
His body was taken to Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary for postmortem.  Mativenga was arrested on Sunday.
Mahoko appealed to the public to desist from violence when solving disputes.
“We applaud members of the public for supplying helpful information which led to the suspect’s arrest.
“We also appeal to the public to desist from violence when in disputes,” he said.
