BEITBRIDGE– Beitbridge’s sole theatre has been razed down to ashes by fire and patients will now be referred to Gwanda or Musina in South Africa. No causalities were recorded.

Efforts to get a comment from Beitbridge District Medical Officer (DMO) Lenos Samhere were futile.

Sources said the theatre’s recovery and operating rooms are the most affected.  The fire is said to have started in the recovery room at around 10:30 am.

Beitbridge Municipality fire officer George Maseko said the fire broke out following a short circuit.

“We received a call and promptly attended the scene. There as a fault in the room which caused the fire. We broke some window pens to gain entry and we managed to contain the fire before it spread.

“Residents should report fires before they get out of hand. They can call on our toll free number, 08523-22245 or on my personal line 0772319649,” said Maseko.

According to sources, the fire broke out in the operating room and some of the damaged items include recovery room beds, emergency tray, vital signs monitor and anaesthetic machines among others.
