Chirumhanzu woman struck by lighting at church

CHIRUMHANZU– A 47-year-old woman Elisa Zhou of Govere Village under Chief Hama was struck by lighting on Saturday last week while attending a church service at Vhudzi Dip tank. Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident to The Mirror. 

 According to the Police, Zhou died on the spot while her nephew she was carrying on her back sustained burns on the stomach. Her body was taken  to St Theresa Hospital mortuary and the injured nephew is admitted at the same facility where he is receiving treatment. Mahoko urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution when it is raining. 

“I confirm we received a report from Charandura Police station that a 47- year old woman of  Govere Village under  Chief Hama, died after being struck by lightning. The incident occurred on November 12, 2022 at around 1200 hours.

“The deceased was identified as Elisa Zhou and her nephew were attending a church service at Vhudzi Dip tank, Chief Chirumhanzu with other church members. We urge members of the public to avoid standing, walking or working on open space when it is raining,” Mahoko said.
