ZVISHAVANE – The Zvishavane Junior Football League has kicked off in the Midlands Province and eight teams are taking part in the Under-13 and 15 age groups.
The eight teams that have affiliated are Pams, Gerasi, Ezinkulu, Eastval Rovers, Hungry Lions, Liquor Den, Firehouse and Falcon.
The start of the league was marked by a tournament last month and league chairman Collen Nikisi said the objective of the junior league is to give an opportunity to youngsters to develop their talents.
The actual league games kicked off on Saturday and the teams are expected to play a total of 14 games to the end of the season. The season is expected to end in early next year.
There is a dearth of junior policy and development in Zimbabwe because of lack of resources. The only visible junior football development is by the National Association of Primary Heads (Naph) and National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) who hold tournaments during the second school terms.
