CHIREDZI – The body of a member of the Police sub-aqua unit who went missing at Chilonga River Bridge resurfaced this evening at the exact point where he dived into the water yesterday morning, reliable sources have told The Mirror.
The officer went missing when he dived into the water to search for the body of a baby that disappeared after the car she was travelling on was swept off the bridge on Monday.
National Police Spokesperson Paul Nyathi confirmed the case of the missing officer early today but was not available this evening to comment on the recovered body.
Four people have died at the flooded Chilonga Bridge since Monday and five in the last three weeks as the call for the construction of a proper bridge across Runde River gets louder and louder.
“A sub-aqua diver went missing yesterday when he was conducting a search for a two-year-old toddler that went missing after a Toyota Hilux was swept off while trying to cross flooded Chilonga Bridge on Monday,” said Nyathi.
The police are still to release the name of the deceased diver.
“It’s mysterious, the body just resurfaced on its own at around 5 pm. It is at the exact point where the cop dived into the water yesterday, ” said a villager.https://masvingomirror.com
