MASVINGO – A man (22) died on Xmas Day after he was challenged to down two packets of an undiluted illicit beer called chimbwa or kitoko (chikozodo) for a US$20 prize.

It is surprising that Daniel Dube (22) from Eastdale Plots Dowa near Chiguhune in Gutu was buried on Boxing Day without a report being made to the Police.

Masvingo Police Spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said there was no such report at Gutu or Chatsworth Police Station.

However, Callisto Chavamwe who is the councillor for Chiguhune confirmed the matter in a telephone interview with The Mirror.

“I am aware of the case. This is devastating as our youths are taking to drugs and alcohol abuse. I urge parents to be on guard, children are losing life to drugs,” said Chavamwe.

The incident happened at Hovhosa Business Center in Chiguhune. There was a challenge for anyone who could gulp 2 sachets of 250ml of undiluted chikozodo at once. The successful imbiber would get US$20.

Dube took up the challenge and downed one sachet. He collapsed and died immediately when he was on the second.
