Harare – Leading  telecommunications company NetOne Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Raphael Mushanawani has sent a condolence message to the family of Samson Zvarimwa who died when his company Land rover was swept off Chilonga Bridge in Chiredzi on Saturday.

The car was pulled out on Monday.

A statement jointly signed by Mushanawani and NetOne Board chair Susan Mutangadura released last night said that the CEO together with a team of NetOne managers travelled to Chiredzi on the same day after getting reports of the incident. In Chiredzi they got in touch with the Police but no meaningful rescue operation could be undertaken because of the power of the water current.

The Police Sub Aqua Unit tried a rescue operation on Sunday but it was realised that more resources were necessary to reach the point where the vehicle was.

The company thanked Malilangwe Trust, Tongaat Hullet, Civil Protection Unit, Police Sub Aqua Unit and Chiredzi South MP Kallisto Gwanetsa and the Chilonga community for mobilizing resources and conducting the operation.

The statement said that Zvarimwa was with a passenger who is yet to be identified by the Police.

It also said that the rescue operation was finally successful on Monday.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of the departed. May their souls rest in peace,” said the statement.
