MBERENGWA- Magistrate Charity Tonongera has sentenced a Mberengwa self-styled prophet to two years in jail for having sexual intercourse with a minor (15). The minor (name withheld) is a form four learner at a school in Mberengwa.
Shadreck Zhou (37) of Mabhiza Village, Chief Maziofa in Mberengwa, appeared in court on Thursday. He will effectively serve 18 months after seven months of the sentence were suspended.
Prosecutor Ali Mutause told the court that Zhou was having an affair with the minor since December 2022. The two had consensual sexual intercourse on several occasions in a bush near the minor’s homestead.
On February 4, 2023, the girl eloped with Zhou. Her father filed a report at ZRP Mataga leading to Zhou’s arrest.
