Zimunya accident claims 3 lives

ZIMUNYA – It was a dark Saturday for Mutare as four lives were lost in two separate accidents on the same day.

At 4 am, a Powertel employee died in an accident in Mutare and 11 hours later at 3pm three other people died when their Toyota Noah overturned near Muradzikwa/Zimunya turnoff along Masvingo-Mutare Road. The vehicle was heading towards Bocha, Marange.

Acting Manicaland Police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the accident and said the driver John Mufu also died on the spot.

“John Mufu was driving a Toyota Noah ACY 4910 along Mutare -Masvingo Road near Muradzikwa/Zimunya turnoff with 11 passengers on board. He lost control of the vehicle and it overturned twice before landing on its left side.

“Two passengers Faith Mukamba (22) of 1431 Chikanga Phase 1, Mutare and Stewart Dumwa (15) of Mungunduma Village under Chief Zimunya also died on the spot while the remaining 11 passengers were ferried to Victoria Chitepo Hospital,” said Chinyoka.
