CHIPINGE – The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) has donated an ambulance to Mount Selinda Hospital in Chipinge.
The donation was made to the United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe (UCCZ) run hospital last week.
UNOPS is an operational arm of the United Nations that supports the delivery partners’ peace building, humanitarian, and development projects across the World.
Efforts to get a comment from UNOPS were futile.
With funding from the World Bank, UNOPS is implementing the Zimbabwe Idai Recovery Project, a four-year multi-agency initiative supporting the recovery of communities affected by Cyclone Idai in 2019. One of the key sectors targeted under the project is health, where UNOPS is working with other agencies to restore access to health services.
To strengthen the health referral network in Chimanimani and Chipinge, UNOPS procured ambulances for three mission hospitals in the two districts.
The ambulances were donated to Mutambara Mission Hospital, St. Peter’s Mission Hospital and Mt. Selinda Mission Hospital.
Mt Selinda Medical Superintendent Doctor Lovemore Sithole said the hospital serve a population of about 14 000 including Mozambique citizens. He added that the hospital had one old ambulance.
