Met Officer warns of heavy rains, winds in Chipinge

CHIPINGE – Benjamin Kwenda, an officer with the Met Department has warned Chipinge and Chimanimani residents of heavy winds and rainfall of up to 50mm this week.

In an interview with Chipinge Times, Kwenda warned people not to cross flooded rivers during this period.

“Chipinge and Chimanimani are some of the districts that will be affected by heavy rains and thunderstorms. People should secure loose roofs because they can be blown away by the winds and pople are also encouraged to stay indoors.  Floods may occur and people living in flood-prone areas should move to higher ground,” said Kwenda.

An emergency preparedness meeting was convened this  morning in Chipinge  to strategize in case of disasters.

Assistant District Development Coordinator Teddius Beto told Chipinge Times that the district is prepared to deal with any disaster posed by the heavy rains.
