Greenfuel FC dominates ERSL awards

MUTARE– Newly promoted Chisumbanje based side Greenfuel FC scooped five awards in the Eastern Region Soccer League (ERSL) award ceremony held at Golden Peacock Hotel on Saturday, last week. The ‘ethanol boys’ got admission into the PSL undefeated with a total of 70 points.

Coach Lloyd ‘Samaita’Mutasa was voted coach of year and got USD $100 plus two nights at Golden Peacock Hotel together with his family, while goalkeeper Tedious Baye got the goalkeeper and soccer star of the year gong and USD $200 plus two nights at Golden Peacock Hotel together with his family. He also got an extra USD $100 for being the goalkeeper of the year. 

Former Manica Diamonds player Ishmael Lawe won the golden boot award after netting 12 goals for the ‘ethanol boys’ and USD $100. Leroy Murape was the second runner -up to complete the five awards that Greenfuel took back home. 

The most promising player is 17- year-old Munyaradzi Kasai from Manica Diamonds Juniors. First runner up was Admire Banda from Masvingo United. The award included secretary of the year which went to Rogers Banda of Renco Mine. Chairman of the year award went to Joseph Kamupira of Ruwa.

ERSL vice chairperson Wisdom Simba expressed gratitude to Golden Peacock Hotel and the The Big Rock Logistics for partnering with the region in sponsoring the colourful event. He also admitted that the 2021-22 soccer season has not been easy for many clubs.

“It was one of the greatest events so far for us as a region. Our players got certificates, trophies and money for their efforts. We also want to thank the Big Rock Logistics and Golden Peacock Hotel for sponsoring the event,” he said.

“This season has not been easy as we saw clubs folding. The economy let us down. Over the years companies who were sponsoring football withdrew. We are also looking forward to improve our awards and include other awards like referee award,” he added.
