Zvishavane man jailed 15 years for rape

ZVISHAVANE – Regional Magistrate Sengster Tavengwa has sentenced a Zvishavane man to 15 years in jail for raping a form four pupil.
Knowledge Jini (20) of Chief Masunda, Zvishavane was sentenced last Friday after a full trial.
He threatened the minor (name withheld) with an axe and frog marched her into a nearby hill before raping her twice.
The incident happened on August 31, 2024, around 4pm near Makuwerere Village under Chief Masunda.
Circumstances are that the minor was fetching firewood with her stepmother in a nearby bush when Jini emerged from a bush wielding an axe.
He put the axe to the minor’s neck and the stepmother ran away shouting for help.
Jini ordered the minor to run, jog and frog jump in front of him as he pushed her with the axe handle. He covered with face with a green t-shirt and raped the minor in the hill once.
He then ordered her to walk to the other side of the mountain where he raped her again before ordering her to remain standing.
The minor began running away after Jini had descended the hill and she met her uncle who was part of a search part to find her.
They filed a Police report and officers followed Jini’s footsteps from the hill and arrived at his homestead.
He was found wearing the same clothes that the minor had told the Police and the minor also identified him at an identification parade.
