Zvishavane launches junior league

ZVISHAVANE – Zvishavane has begun the revitalization of local football by launching the Junior League which is set to commence in two weeks’ time.

The league will constitute the under 13, 15 and 17s teams who will be made up of soccer academies partnering schools with the thrust of selecting the best players.

Zvishavane Junior League chairperson Collen Nikisi confirmed the development to The Mirror and added that the league is meant to identify talent and nurture it.

“We want to revive junior football in the town so we are having cup tournaments. The tournaments are meant boost confidence in young players.  They will also get kits for the league. We will be launching a junior league for under 13, 15 and 17 in two weeks’ time. The league will be professional with experienced technical staff. We will curb age cheating as there will be strict vetting,” he said.

This league is the first of its kind in Zvishavane and has seen academies like Falcon, Pams, Gerasi and Ezimunkulu Liquor den affiliating to the league.

Gerasi football Academy coach Gerald Phiri said the league will help in moulding youngsters for the future.

“The Junior League will give the youngsters a platform to showcase their talent, give them exposure as they get to know the game of football better,” he said.
