Zvishavane athletes bag three medals in Beitbridge

ZVISHAVANE– Three Zvishavane based athletes from Great Dyke Athletics Club made a strong showing in the Mayor’s half marathon in Beitbridge on Saturday last week.
The three athletes hogged the limelight after scooping medals in different races. The club collected two gold medals and a bronze, thanks to the exploits of Miriam Chanetsa, Rutendo Mhazo and Lordbismar Mathe. Chanetsa came first in the 5km race. There was also a good performance from Mhazo who claimed a gold medal in the 10km race.
The team also got a bronze medal from Mathe who claimed his eleventh medal of the year. Mathe came third in the 21km race. Other team members Tatenda Tonisa and Craig Keverere came fourth and fifth in the 10km race. The performance was lauded by Agric 24 with Marketing Manager Prosper Chinyakata who is the club’s sponsor. Chinyakata praised the team for their sterling performance. He said the team fought hard to come up with three medals.
“l am really proud with the team’s performance. They bagged two gold medals and a bronze . This means more than half of the athletes got accolades. The other two also got good positions and they will up the game next time. This was a stellar performance “, he said.
Great Dyke Athletics Club coach Maliakini Makunganye told Mirror Sport that the games were an eye-opening experience for team members and valuable lesson were learnt that will help the athletes do better in future tournaments.
“I am happy with the team’s performance. We have learnt a lot . We hope to do better in future tournaments. I will encourage the guys to work hard and win more accolades,” he said.
