ZRU presidential candidate tours Masvingo



MASVINGO – Aspiring Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) president and former Sables International player Gerald Sibanda was in Masvingo on Thursday where he met the provincial rugby board and toured several schools.
Some of his election promises include the launch of the Zimbabwe Rugby Foundation, introducing grassroots Rugby programs and strengthening rugby boards to be effective.
The election will take place next Saturday in Harare and Sibanda will context against incumbent president Aaron Jani and his deputy Losson Mutingwanzi.
“Should I be elected into office, I promise to launch the Zimbabwe Rugby Foundation, introducing grassroots development programs, strengthen provincial and national rugby structures and grow a viable professional domestic league.
“My objective is to bring the sport to its glory years. We want to develop a world class Rugby stadium for our national team and we want to unlock all investment opportunities for the sport,” he said.
Sibanda visited Victoria High school and Kyle College and assessed their where he assessed their playing fields and challenges and engaged the students and staff on how to improve rugby facilities.
He made 30 appearances for the Sables between 2004 and 2017. He featured in three world cups and was named best Sevens rugby player in 2009. After retiring he was appointed Assistant Manager for the Sevens national team.
