Gweru – The Zimbabwe Miners Federation General Council board has suspended its president Henrietta Rushwaya with immediate effect.

The suspension is over allegations of gold smuggling after the controversial former sports administrator was arrested at Robert Mugabe Airport in Harare on Monday allegedly trying to get on a board a plane with 6kg of gold.

An emergency caucus meeting was held at the Baptist Convention Centre in Gweru today which resulted in the decision.

ZMF chairperson Makumba Nyenje said Rushwaya will be replaced by Marufu Sithole, the first vice president of the organization pending the finalisation of her court case.

“The general council has received reports from the National Executive on issues surrounding Rushwaya and secretary for external affairs, Gift Karanda. We realise that they are appearing in court on allegations of attempting to smuggle gold.

This committee draws attention to section 4 subsection 10 sub-sub section 1 of the constitution on expulsion or suspension of a member who has committed a breach of any of the provision of the ZMF constitution.
