CHIPINGE – A Zimunya man drinking beer at a local bar on New Year’s Day was assaulted to death over US$1.
James Chiadzwa was struck to death with a log by Mark Chiwanga for refraining him from beating Hazvinei Kanjada whom he suspected of having picked his US$1 which had fallen to the ground.

Manicaland Acting Provincial Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told Chipinge Times that the incident occurred at Maguru Bottle Store, Matika Village Doradombo Zimunya, Mutare.
Chiadzwa and Mark Chiwanga were drinking beer at Maguru Bottle Store at around 7pm on Saturday when Chiwanga dropped his US$1 and he suspected that Kanjanda picked it.

Chiwanga accused Kanjanda of stealing his money and slapped her on the face. Chiadzwa restrained him but failed. Kanjanda hit Chiwanga with an empty bottle on the face and ran away.
Chiwanga then went for Chiadzwa and attacked him with open hands for supporting Kanjanda.

Chiadzwa tried to run away but he was tripped down and the accused allegedly took a log and assaulted him with it resulting in a deep cut on the head, fractured right hand and bruises on the face.
Chiwanga left the scene leaving Chiadzwa lying down in agony.

Chiadzwa was found dead a few metres from the bottle store at 6am on Sunday, said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Police is appealing for any information leading to the arrest of Chiwanga who is still at large.
