MASVINGO – Obvious Kazamula (31), an archival footage contributor will from tomorrow be representing Zimbabwe in Kenya in the Patriotic Quiz and Footage Competition to be held in Kenya until January 13, 2023.

He is poised to walk away with US$40 000 if he comes first in the competitions that have drawn 14 participants from different African countries.

The event will see competitors presenting archival or old footages that may contain important historical information. In addition, they will go through quiz competitions and the event is taking place at the invitation of Historical Films Archives.

Historical Films Archives is looking for unreleased old films.

Kazamula told The Mirror that he was lucky to be introduced by a friend from South West News Service sometime in 2020 and made his first trip to Kenya that year.

The topics covered in the quiz will include immigration, patriotism, history of one’s country, old footages or images, tourism, religion and education.

Archival footages are videos that have been captured in the past. These may be historical, vintage or retro footages and oftenly they are of lower quality and may have visible grain or a more “sepia toned” color grading providing a lot of warmth and depth to the footage. Most of these images are found on old tapes.

Kazamula said he is passionate about historical events. He inherited a library from a relative and since then, he started working as an archivist and has been in the industry for four years.

“I would like to thank Historical Films Archives for giving me the golden opportunity to represent my country and gain more knowledge”, said Kazamula.
