GWERU – The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has opened an office in Gweru whose mission is to deal with compliance and monitoring of energy sources such as electricity, petroleum and gas.
The office will also be involved in consumer education and it will handle complaints and expedite swift resolution and regulation of energy supply issues.
The offices which opened doors to clients on Friday are located at CABS Centre along Fifth Street.
In his address, Zera board chairperson, David Madzikanda condemned the handling of fuel and liquefied petroleum gas without proper licensing.
“As Zera, we are worried with the way people are handling fuel and liquefied petroleum. Petroleum accidents are very catastrophic when they happen and they claim lives of innocent people.
“It is important for operators to know the right structure setups for fuel. We are hoping that the establishment of an office in Gweru will bring a positive change,” he said.
The decentralised regional office is third after Mutare and Bulawayo.
ZERA is a statutory board established by the Energy Regulatory Authority Act (Chapter 13.23) of 2011m and is mandated to regulate the procurement, production, transportation, transmission, distribution, importation and exportation of energy derived from an energy source.
