SHURUGWI-Zimbabwe Defence Force (ZDF) commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda officially opened and handed over Tongogara Poly-Clinic constructed by the ZDF in Shurugwi to Tongogara Rural District Council (RDC) on Friday.
Prominent businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei of Sakunda Holdings also donated an ambulance and equipment worth US$400 000 to the clinic.
Shurugwi North legislator Robson Nyathi, Chief Nhema, council officials and ZDF commanders attended the event.
Sibanda said the ZDF will carry out more projects in Shurugwi to improve livelihoods.
“This is the beginning and a lot will happen. We assist in construction. Boreholes have been sunk in the district to end the water crisis. We want to thank our Government and the army for this structure because it’s going to solve various problems. This clinic will decongest the district hospital and improve the health delivery system in the area. We are providing free medical examinations to all community members,” said Sibanda.
Tongogara Poly-Clinic construction began in 2021 using devolution funds. ZDF provided builders. The poly-clinic has a Paediatric ward, maternity wing, female and male wards and a kitchen.
Residents were travelling long distances to Zvamabande Rural Hospital for health care services.
Chief Nhema applauded the local authority and ZDF for constructing the state-of-the-art polyclinic.
“A great job has been done here. We thank everyone for contributing to the program. We now await Government through the Ministry of Health and Childcare to deploy nurses to this facility,” he said.
