ZHOMBE – A Zanu PF proportional representative Councillor, Rita Masiyambiri of Ward 7, Zhombe who is accused of forcing villagers to pay US$800 to cover transport costs for their food aid has made an application for a postponement of the case.
Masiyambiri told Magistrate Itai Kagwere that she had little time to look at the papers when she appeared in court on Monday.
Masiyambiri, Heri Govera (Social Welfare Development officer), Mukondo (Social Development Officer) and headman Thomas Ncube are being sued by the elected CCC Ward 7 councillor Simbarashe Hlabati who wants them barred from distributing welfare food. Hlabati also wants the court to force the four to refund the villagers the money they paid for transport.
Masiyambiri said she was informed of the court application by Zibagwe Rural District Council (RDC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Farayi Machaya who phoned her on Friday after receiving the papers from the applicant.
Heri also said that he is yet to have sight of the application which was served at his correspondence address which is Zanu PF district head office in Kwekwe.
Headman Ncube said he is yet to have sight of the court application which was served through the District Development Coordinator’s office.
Mukondo and Govera also said they were waiting for guidance from their head office. The matter was postponed to June 12, 2024.
