MWENEZI – Former Zanu PF Central Committee member and Mwenezi West independent candidate and former National Consultative Assembly member Tafadzwa Masvayamwando Shumba, tore into Zanu PF and described it as evil.
He was addressing mourners at his mother Clara Shumba’s funeral in Rutenga, last week. Shumba, wife to the late Mwenezi West legislator, Isaac Shumba was declared provincial war hero.
Shumba turned independent citing massive rigging allegedly orchestrated by Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ) and CIO operatives during the party’s chaotic primary elections which saw Priscilla Zindari-Moyo, wife to Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) director, Isaac Moyo declared the winner. Shumba’s Toyota GD6 was allegedly hijacked at gunpoint before being torched just near Chirindi Township during the run up to the August 2023 harmonised elections after he challenged Moyo.
He told mourners that family business documents were destroyed in the inferno and his mother health deteriorated after the police concluded that they have closed the case because they did not find the suspects.
“Zanu PF is evil. Everyone knows the people who burnt the car and they are walking freely. I want to tell those from the President’s office to listen carefully and report correctly. We are now orphans because of Zanu PF. My father, my mother and I worked for that party and this is what we are getting in return. I rue the day my father decided to join politics. “My mother walked a very long distance running away from soldiers are after someone sold out that she was feeding freedom fighters. They declared a provincial liberation hero but they are not here because they know what they did. Many people are suffering because of Zanu PF,” said Tafadzwa.
Zanu PF provincial chair Rabson Mavhenyengwa said Shumba was lying because Zanu PF senior members including Politburo deputy secretary economic development and empowerment, Otilia Maluleke, and Matabeleland South senator Tambudzani Mohadi attended the funeral, but they were not accorded a chance to speak.
He went on to say that Tafadzwa is an opposition to Zanu PF so he can say whatever he wants to tarnish their party. He also said others did not attend before they were threatened not to attend by Tafadzwa. “Tafadzwa is an opposition member. We declared his mother a provincial hero because she was our member. Some of our party members attended but were denied to speak.
Zanu PF allegedly targeted its former members who contested on an independent ticket in Masvingo leading to controversial death of Gutu West Independent candidate Mutonhori Rwodzi who died in what was described as a freak car accident that occurred along Chivhu-Mpandawana highway.
