CHIPINGE-The Elisabeth Valerio led United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) has said that the electorate is afraid of joining new parties for fear of intimidation from Zanu PF supporters.
UZA Manicaland spokesperson Tangai Jarvis Chandiringa told Chipinge Times recently that they failed to field nominees in the district because they were allegedly intimated by Zanu PF supporters and most withdrew on the nomination day.
The party only managed to field two candidates, Stanley Mlambo (Chipinge Urban Ward 4) and Edmore Chivharo (Chipinge Rural Ward 14).
“We did not manage to field many candidates because others dropped out at the last minute. The ruling party threatened them.
“If you join an opposition party, you are exposing yourself and people fear that. They fear that if they join our party, anything could happen to them. We have not faced challenges from senior party members,” he said.
UZA was formed in 2021 in Hwange.
Chandiringa also said that UZA has immense followers in Nyanga and Mutare.
“We have good numbers in terms of supporters. In Nyanga and Mutare, we have quite a lot of supporters. Our vice chairperson is based in Nyanga thus we enjoy immense support there.
“We will soon be doing door to door campaigns teaching people more about our party and our manifesto,” he said.
