Chiredzi – Zanu PF has intensified party meetings in Chiredzi despite a lockdown declared in the district by Government because of an alarming rise in the number of Covid19 cases.

Chiredzi is one of the  three districts in the country that were this week declared red spots for Covid-19 and therefore placed under localised lockdown.

The Mirror however, realised that Zanu PF was still holding cell meetings to register people for the 2023 elections for the past weeks. The war veterans are also holding meetings with chimbwidos and mujibas where they are being registered for compensation.

Active Covid-19 cases in Chiredzi have shot up to 185

The localized lockdown regulations are that the areas put under lockdown would be isolated and 6pm to 6am curfew imposed and access to and from the areas be bound except for essential services.

Chiredzi has  185 active cases compared to 442 for the whole province. There has been one death in Chiredzi during the third wave compared to 72 for the whole province.

Vice President who is also Minister of Health and Child Care, Constantine Chiwenga said unnecessary  gatherings  except  funerals should be banned.

It appears that Zanu PF is not affected by lockdown rules announced by Chiwenga on 12 June as the party continues with meetings throughout the country. However, opposition are dealt with heavily if they are found holding meetings or not properly wearing masks.

Last week Zanu PF leaders including the secretary for security in the Politburo, Lovemore Matuke had over 1 000 people at a funeral in Gutu when the rule says there will be not more than 30 people at funerals.

Apart from cell registering meetings which have been ongoing, War vets offices in Chiredzi have been accommodating many women and men in the name of Chimbidos trying to register in a bid by Zanu PF to attain many votes in the upcoming elections.

The other districts placed under local lockdowns are Karoi, Makande, Chinhoyi, Mangura, Chidamwoyo, Magunje, Chirundu in Mash West, Bulawayo- Nkulumane and Emakandeni and Nothern Surbubs, Mash Central has been put under similar lockdown.
