MASVINGO – The situation is tense as Zanu PF holds its Central Committee elections for Masvingo tomorrow Saturday 1 October 2022.

Twenty-two seats are up for grabs in all the Province’s seven administrative districts and each administrative district will have three representatives in the Central Committee except Gutu which is going to have four.

This was confirmed by Zanu PF Masvingo spokesperson and Zaka West MP Alphios Murambiwa.

A memo dated September 7, 2022 and signed by the party’s secretary for administration Obert Mpofu states that aspiring candidates must have served in party structures for 15 consecutive years.

Some of the people vying for central committee posts are veteran politician Maina Mandava, Masvingo businessman Benjamin Mazarire, youth Talent Majoni and Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Lovemore Matuke.

The candidates must have served five years in a provincial committee.

The Central Committee is Zanu PF’s highest decision making body made up of 300 members. Some of the CC members are drafted from national youth, women’s and main wings of the party.

“Aspiring candidates must have served in party structures for a period of not less than 15 consecutive years, five of which one must have served as a provincial executive member.

“They must not have been subjected to criminal conviction or insolvency and must not have been found guilty and convicted by the party disciplinary proceedings during the past five years,” reads part of the memo.
