The Spirit when we sin ..or go wrong ..
Some have argued that the Holy Spirit literally does nothing when we sin .Except to tell us we are righteous,
It’s likely they were in a hurry listening to their teacher .
That’s the danger of cherry picking or listening to build your sermon or woo others .
It has happened with many bible concepts .
John 16:8-11 KJV
[8] And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: [9] Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10] Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more
I Suspect this is one of such subtexts
It’s proof texted.
The concept discussed was about his resurrection not Christian living .
The background suffices .
John 16:7 KJV
[7] Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
His going away is his death burial and resurrection and its facts .
He will convince on this .Some have likewise used James’ submission
James 1:5 KJV
[5] If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Upbraids not ,which could also mean to find wrong or fault .
This context is persecution and trial of faith .
Context is always king .
That same word was used for other instances .
Matthew 11:20 KJV
[20] Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
For Jesus .
Mark 16:14 KJV
[14] Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.For Jesus again .
He was said to have upbraided ,contradictions?
No .
I often teach that words only have its true meaning in sentences used not necessarily dictionaries.
Did Jesus find fault ?
Obviously he corrected like every teacher should .
He definitely told them their wrong ,unbelief .And taught them .
This is where mere fault finding differs from correction.
In correction ,deed done wrong is pointed out

[40] And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
Matthew 17:17 KJV
[17] Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
That’s the spirit speaking .The Spirit of God .Telling them what they did wrong .
However the difference is correction teaches what you should do or should have done
Like a school class teacher marks your scripts ,then afterwards does a class to show what you should have written where you missed the mark or issues .
Luke 24:25 KJV
[25] Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Fault or wrong action shown
Luke 24:27 KJV
[27] And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Correction .
Matthew 17:20 KJV
[20] And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Correction .
There can’t be correction without spotting the wrong deed .But it’s mere fault finding without instruction and information of what to do .
This is the Spirits work
Rebuke ,correction .
2 Timothy 3:16 KJV
[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable ……for instruction in righteousness:
Instruction here is training a child ,correction, scolding etc
Hebrews 12:5,8 KJV
[5] And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: [8] But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
The Spirits work .
2 Timothy 4:2 KJV
[2] Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
The Spirits work .
Correction ,rebuke .
All Epistles carry this flavor .
Revelation 3:19 KJV
[19] As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Paul called men fools ,foolish ,fleshly ,sinful .Same as Peter and John and James .
That’s the Spirits work ,in the Written Word and definitely in our lives .
Some don’t understand the word condemnation and use it without context .
They should be taught I advise they visit livingwordmedia,and listen to Condemnation,judgement and judging others .Amongst many others .
They will see that the Spirit judges us .
Not Guilt and unworthiness
Romans 8:1 KJV
[1] There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus
Yet he corrects and condemns our conduct like Jesus did for us to receive instruction for Growth and edification
2 Corinthians 12:21 KJV
[21] And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.
This could make us very uncomfortable and remorseful but never unworthy of what he has called us in Christ ,though our deeds could be .
He corrects us for our growth
2 Corinthians 13:10 KJV
[10] Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.
Not destruction If any destruction at all ,it’s the work of the flesh
1 Corinthians 5:5 KJV
[5] To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
Satan here means opposition .
The spirit will always oppose the flesh
Galatians 5:17 KJV
[17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Contrary here means opponent .
This is the Spirits work
So when we Sin..,we see His rebuke and correction all over the Epistles,yet affirming our identity in Christ but not the deeds done in the flesh .
