MBERENGWA – A 19-year-old woman from Shumba Village under Chief Mposi in Mberengwa has been arrested after she allegedly killed her seven-months-old baby with milk laced with organo phosphate tablet.
Midlands Province Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident to The Mirror.
The incident occurred on Tuesday last week.
“The incident occurred on March 1, 2023. Felistus Mpofu left home in the company of her daughter intending to go to Zvishavane to look for employment as a house maid.
“She arrived in Zvishavane at 8pm and became stranded at Mandava bus terminus. She then allegedly fed her baby with fresh milk mixed with an Organo phosphate tablet. At 3am she sought accommodation at a house in Mandava and the baby started vomiting and her condition deteriorated in no time.
“The woman who hosted her accompanied her to Zvishavane District Hospital where the baby was pronounced dead on arrival. A report was made at ZRP Zvishavane and Mpofu was searched and a baby feeding bottle containing smelly residue was found. She was arrested and detained at ZRP Zvishavane,” said Mahoko.
