MUTARE – A dubious n’anga operating on WhatsApp using the name Matare naSekuru Mudzere has been sentenced to 10 months in jail after duping a client of US$470.
Talent Tendai Makunike (22) created the WhatsApp group where he promised to help people secure employment and bring instant riches.
Mutare Magistrate Thandiwe Sibanda suspended five months of the sentence because the accused was a first offender and another five on condition that he does community service at Musabayana Primary School.

He was ordered to restitute US$470 to Andrew Kafunya (23) before August 12.
It is the State case that Makunike duped Kafunya whom he met through social media platform.
Prosecutor Sharon Chibvongodze told the court that Makunike told Kafunya to send him US$30 in order for him to secure Kafunya employment. He said he had a contact by the name Frank Mugabe in the Zimbabwe National Army who would help him to get a job in the army.
Makunike then lied that Mugabe had been arrested and wanted US$80 for bail. Kafunya sent the money to Makunike. He later told the complainant to meet him in Sakubva for a cleansing ceremony.

The court was told that Makunike lied that he was from Chipinge. He demanded a further US$60 for his transport to Mutare. Kafunya sent him the money. Makunike then set up a shrine in Sakubva and told Kafunya to come for the ceremony.
On arrival Kafunya told the complainant to surrender his phone, passport, US$300 before entering the shrine. He was promised that his bag will be full of money after the cleansing ceremony.
This did not happen and Kafunya reported the matter to Police.
Police recovered ZWL $31 000, Kafunya’s cellphone, other phones and several sim cards which were used to dupe people.https://masvingomirror.com
