MIRROR REPORTER – Wildlife and Environment Zimbabwe Lowveld Environment Awareness Program (WEZ LEAP) will train 30 young farmers under a programme aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change in Chiredzi District.
The training programme will take place in conjunction with Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre in Masvingo which will provide tutors.
WEZ LEAP’s Programs Manager Faith Hove told a stakeholder sensitisation gathering at the Ministry of Youth boardroom in Chiredzi last week that the program was the first of its kind on climate change.
The training will be done on the ground with trainers from Mushagashi coming to camp in ward 1 to 5 and 25 where the programme will take place.
“This initiative is unprecedented and it’s for youths aged between 25 and 35 with an interest in agriculture, horticulture, beef and dairy value chain. The participants shall be drawn from wards 1-5 and ward 25 in rural Chiredzi where WEZ LEAP has established its presence,” said Hove.
The training is 30% theory and 80% practicals and trainees will thereafter be attached to some commercial farms.
The trainees will receive a National Certificate from Mushagashe upon completion of the programme.
