HARARE-The Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement Permanent Secretary, John Bhasera, has urged farmers to go on a weed control blitz during this festive season in order to maintain a weed free crop using all available methods. In his Christmas message to farmers, Bhasera said maize yield loss accounted for by weed pressure is substantial.
“When everything is top notch, weeds alone contribute to over 50% yield loss. Sharing this agro-nugget or tip is an act of kindness, love and the ultimate Christmas gift for every farmer. We are Going4YieldGrowth,” said Bhasera.
He went on to say continued positive growth in the livestock sub-sector lies in strict adherence to critical touch points that will entrench the Going4Growth (G4G-2023) mantra in 2023, which include de-worming of all livestock, vaccinating against anthrax, Black Leg, Botulism and Lumpy Skin Disease.
“Religious weekly dipping in all areas and adoption of a 5-5-4 day dipping interval in January Disease hot spots, seasonal bulling, avoid kraaling livestock in muddy kraals or paddocks and supplementary feeding is necessary for first calvers. Remember we are Going4LivestockGrowth in 2023,” added Bhasera.
