MUTARE-Veteran photojournalist Innocent Chiwanza and owner of Universal Multimedia Company died at Victoria Chitepo hospital on Wednesday after he collapsed in Mutare CBD.
He suffered a heart attack moments after engaging in a heated argument with City Municipal Police officers who had clamped his vehicle.
Efforts to get a comment from his family were futile by the time of going to Press.
Sources close to the matter told Chipinge Times that his family members drove his Toyota Camry Sedan and blocked the entrance into Civic Centre in the night.
Acting Mutare Town Clerk Blessing Chafesuka confirmed the matter to Chipinge Times. He said they towed the vehicle into council premises.
He also said that council will issue out an official statement after engaging the family.
“I received a report that a Toyota Camry was blocking the parking lot at Civic Centre. I then instructed officers to hire a tow truck that towed the vehicle into the parking lot. I am told that the vehicle belonged to the late Chiwanza. We are awaiting to hear what the family wants from us,” said Chafesuka.
Chiwanza parked his vehicle outside Laxman Shop and went into the shop. He found the vehicle clamped when he returned and got into an altercation with Municipal Police officers.
“I was close when the incident happened. He (Chiwanza) had a valid parking disk. The officers accused him of parking within seven metres from an intersection. He opened the vehicle’s passenger door, got into the vehicle and collapsed immediately,” said a source.
