Gweru – Prominent Gweru land developer Smelly Dube is spending a minimum of US$150 a night at Claybank Hospital in Gweru for bed only, investigations by The Mirror have revealed.

She has so far been in the hospital for 28 days bringing her total bill to US$4 200.

A hospital source told The Mirror that the cost of the bed is the minimum. When costs like meals, doctors’ fees, blood tests and other services on the patient are factored in, the bill balloons. She said that the bill is likely to double up when she leaves the hospital.

The hospital manager Dr Ngabulo Dube said admission prices differ depending on a number of things which includes the patient’s illness, whether one has a medical aid or not plus the type of cover one’s medical aid has.

If you want to know the prices it’s US$300 for two nights or US$150 a day. This is just for the bed when one is discharged we do what we call a final bill. The final bill will include doctors’ fees, medications and any other hospital equipment used as gloves, drips etc,” said  a hospital staffer when The Mirror made an enquiry yesterday.

Dube is remanded in prison on allegations of illegally selling urban State land to the tune of US$9 million.
