UK–based Chimbi computerises rural Chivi

By Benjamin Takavarasha

Lettie Chimbi, a Zimbabwean based in Wales in the UK continues to change lives in arid Chivi District in a remarkable way.

After installing a borehole at Hapazari Village, Chimbi has this time set up and opened a computer laboratory at Muzondo High School under Chief Makonese.

The laboratory which was officially opened by Chivi deputy District Schools Inspector Norman Mukwendi on April 24, 2021 is fully equipped with 10 laptops and a smart television. There is also a complete solar system to power the IT laboratory.

The resourceful Chimbi sourced the equipment courtesy of funding from the Welsh Government which came through an agent Welsh Council Voluntary Action.

A high-powered delegation recently made a tour of the project and it included the local councillor, a representative of Chief Makonese and Mukwendi.

The delegation was upbeat about the development and yearned for young Zimbabweans to emulate the gesture.

Muzondo High Head, Chomuyeke expressed gratitude for the donation and said it would go a long way in improving results in the school.

The laboratory will enable students to do research and to do zoom lessons. Since the installation, the computer lab has been a favourite place for students.

Chimbi has not restricted her donations to her home area but has gone further afield, undertaking a similar initiative in Churumanzu in the Midlands.
