Triangle strikes villager with axe over land dispute

CHIREDZI – Regional Magistrate Judith Zuyu has sentenced a Triangle man to five years in prison for striking a fellow villager with an axe twice in the head over a land dispute.
Selusi Bhibha (55) of Village 11, Chisase in Triangle will effectively serve three years for the attempted murder charge after Magistrate Zuyu suspended two years of the sentence.
Bhibha was found guilty after a full trial.
He told the court that he was defending himself from the man he struck.
The incident happened on January 13, 2024, at Village 11, Chisase in the afternoon.
Circumstances are that Bhibha approached Simbarashe Munyepwa who was clearing his field and the two quarreled over a land dispute. In a fit of rage, Bhibha allegedly struck Munyepwa twice in the head and he sustained deep cuts. Magistrate Zuyu considered that Bhibha has 28 children, 17 of whom are below 18 years of age and dependent on him.
