MASVINGO – The trial of Tom Ssekamwa, a Ugandan tourist arrested over a sex toy kicked off at Masvingo Magistrate Court yesterday.
It was postponed to tomorrow for continuation of trial.
Ssekamwa was arrested together with Czech tourist Lucas Slavik on August 2,2024 who is charged with spreading falsehoods with intention to incite the public. The matter is before Magistrate Isaac Chikura.
The State led by Tarisai Muvengi submitted to the court that they need to apply for another witness from the Censorship and Entertainment Unit to come as the third witness on the case. The State proposed to postpone the matter to September 06,2024 but the application was denied by the accused’s defense citing that it will take time to bring the Deputy Director of the Censorship and Entertainment Unit.
The State said Ssekamwa was found with a rubber toy penis in his bag and he is being charged with the violation of the Censorship Act Chapter 26 1 (a) of the Constitution.
His defense Lawyer Knowledge Mabvuure told the court that his client wasn’t the owner of the sex toy and again it is not offensive for one to have rubber penis because it is not gazzeted as a prohibited item to own.
