TONGOGARA – The Minister of Local Government and Public Works, July Moyo has approved a  ZWL$4,1 billion annual budget for Tongogara Rural District Council (TRDC).

The budget which is pegged in both local currency and in US$  translates to US$5,045 million at the prevailing interbank rate.

The budget rises from the 2022 budget which stood at ZW$881m and the performance was 64%.

TRDC Council Chairman Golden Kapeta confirmed the approval to The Mirror.

He said the council is determined to consolidate the achievements made last year and finish pending projects using the approved budget.

“We want to use part of the budget to complete Tongogara Polyclinic, Pompey, Poshai and Wida clinics. A staff house will be built at Batanai Clinic. The budget will also see the construction of six other clinics in various wards and four classroom blocks at various schools in the district,” said Kapeta.

There is also a plan to procure a borehole drill rig to address water challenges in Shurugwi and a bulldozer to rehabilitate roads that are in bad shape.

“We are having challenges with artisnal miners who are failing to pay taxes and for this year we are planning to engage them each and every time so that they pay in time. They are one of the reasons why our budget performance fell to 65%,” added Kapeta.
