Shurugwi – Tongogara Rural District Council has procured 23 motorbikes for its councillors.
The local authority has 24 councillors with the other one being the chairman.
Council Chairman Tamiswa Njovana confirmed the development to The Mirror and said that the acquisition was done through the loan and each motorbike costs RTGS$143 000.
“We need to improve the mobility of our councillors. It has been very difficult for them to fulfill their business by using public transport. Sometimes they travel at the back of trucks and it rains and sometimes they get into busses and they arrive late for meetings. They also need to cover the length and breadth of their wards but this is not possible on foot,” said Njovana.
