SHURUGWI–A form 3 Tongogara High School pupil died on the spot on Friday last week after he was struck by a bolt of lightning while coming from school.
Shepherd Zireva (15) was struck on his way home from school at around 3 pm near Mvura Village and he died instantly.
His older brother Polite Zireva confirmed the death to The Mirror and said the lightning tore off all of his brother’s clothing.
He also said that Shepherd was buried at the family’s homestead under Chief Nhema on Sunday.
“Shepherd was coming from school with friends and it began raining. They found the river flooded and proceeded to hide. The group continued with their journey when the heavy rains subsided.
“A bolt of lightning then struck Shepherd and tore off his clothing. He died on the spot. His friends alerted nearby villagers who covered him with a blanket,” said Polite.
