Tongaat wins Masvingo show Industrial award

MASVINGO- Sugar-producing giant Tongaat Huletts walked away with a floating trophy after scooping the Best Industrial Company award at the just-ended Masvingo Agricultural Show.
The show ran from Thursday to Sunday under the theme Transformation, the Key Engine for Economic Growth. Tanganda came second, and Phill Air Conditioning was third.
Tongaat Hulett Support Services General Manager Ushe Chinhuru told The Mirror that the accolade recognises the company’s contribution towards the Provincial Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the nation. 
The sugar giant is the country’s second-largest employer after the government, with 17,000 workers.
“We have been involved in several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives including constructing a ZRP office block and the recently commissioned two clinics in Chiredzi North at US$50,000,” he said. 
Tongaat was second in the same category last year and at the recently held Lowveld Agricultural Show. The organisation displayed sugar varieties and ethanol.
Nyaradzo Funeral Services came first in the Financial Institutions and Insurance Services category. Zimbabwe Post Office and Old Mutual came second and third.
In the Government Parastatals (Services and Industrial) category, the Central Mechanical Equipment Department (CMED) took pole position whilst the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and Masvingo City Council (MCC) came second and third respectively.
The Mirror, the largest independent regional Newspaper, won the third position in the Telecommunication Companies category. Hevoi FM and Econet Wireless Zimbabwe took second and first positions respectively.
