MASVINGO – Masvingo United barely scrapped past Manica Diamonds U19 on Sunday as the youth dominated play and possession.
Una Una spent the better part of the second half cowering behind injuries and time wasting antics as the diamond boys pressed on for an equalizer.
The main highlight would probably be Masvingo United goalkeeper Blessed Madzimure being attended to about eight times in the last 20 minutes of the match by the referee and club medical staff.
The match ended 3-2 in favor of Una Una. The club was leading 2-0 by halftime and failed to maintain the momentum.
Manica Diamonds equalized in the first 5 minutes of the final half and kept pilling pressure on the old boys.
Una Una managed to squeeze one in within 10 minutes and it is from that the club adopted time wasting antics and multiple injuries.
Masvingo United coach George Magariro didnot pick upm calls when contacted by The Mirror.
Manica Diamonds U19 Coach Hibron ‘Adala Chomie’ Makukutu condemned the referee for not being professional.
He said he is pleased with his charges and condemned Una Una for its time wasting antics.
“Generally we had a good game despite losing. My charges created lots of chances in the second half. I blame the referee for entertaining Masvingo United time wasting antics. He attended to their goalkeeper at least seven times in a space of 20 minutes.
“The referee did not even give us extra time of play after stopping play for close to 15 minutes. The ball boys held the ball when it went out to our disadvantage. There is need for fair play,” he said.
Meanwhile Masvingo United is playing Triangle FC at Mucheke Stadium this Sunday.
Triangle lost some of its key players when it was relegated from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) last season. The sugar boys have won only three of their six encounters, drew one and lost two. Log leaders FC Wangu Mazodze have won six matches and drew one bringing their tally to 19 out of a potential 21 points.
