MVUMA – A till operator and her husband have been fined ZWL$25 000 after they stole goods at Nice Time Supermarket in Mvuma using fake receipts.

Magistrate Constance Mutandwa found Nyasha Mapako (22), an employee at Nice Time Supermarket and Tawanda Muchena (32) of Newlands in Mvuma guilty after they appeared before her facing charges of stealing groceries.

On December 24, 2022 at 2:30 pm, Mapako and Muchena hatched a plan to steal at the supermarket and Mapako gave Muchena two fiscal receipts.

Muchena proceeded to take 3×5 kg rice, 2kg Charhons cookie biscuits, 4 kg Maq washing powder, 4 kg sugar, 2x500ml sterilized fresh milk, 4 liters pure drop cooking oil, 4 litres raspberry drink, 2×275 rabroy tomato sauce, 2x750g mayonnaise cream and 2x410g Valley pride baked beans.

Muchena passed payment point and handed one fiscal receipt to the security guard, Wiseman Mukorovera at the exit who noticed that the goods did not tally the presented fiscal receipts.

Mukorovera called Simon Mugabazi who proved that the receipts were not for groceries bought. Muchena confessed that he was given the fiscal receipts by his wife and they were both arrested.

Magistrate Mutandwa fined them ZWL$25 000 each or 30 days in prison.

Takudzwa Mutyavaviri prosecuted.
