When there is economic crisis,the church is affected and worship is not spared too.Basically worship is the awed response to the saving acts and praiseworthy character of God.and spirituality comes from the Latin “spiritus” which literally means “breath”, signifying Life.
True worship improve the spirituality of the Church amidst any challenges since worship in church , is therefore, a nonnegotiable—an essential mark and means of Christian piety, discipleship, and witness.
It is of great social and economic importance that worship brings to the community and its members a sense of the enduring qualities of life, hope for a doubtful future, and a sense of well-being and health in the midst of trials and illness and danger.
Organised worship which includes praise and thanksgiving ,music and song,and the sharing of the Word improves the spirituality of individuals and communities for better.Worship can be the channel through which people’s spirituality is made better even in economic dire situations and make church/ worshippers become economically stable.
Worship it’s when we praise God above everything else and put Him first in our hearts. As it says in Deuteronomy 6:4-5, “The Lord our God, the Lord is one!
Economic challenges however increase opportunities for the church to minister to the members who are going through tough times through worship.These economic difficulties may also be catalyst for people to realize their need for Christ and appreciate the willingness of the church to reach out and help them and their spirituality through worship.
According to Gruber’s approach,worship is vital in uplifting the spirituality of a community.One plausible idea is that going to church and worship yields “social capital”,a web of relationships that fosters trust.Economist think such ties can be valuable, especially to depressed or economically disadvantaged communities,in that they make business dealings smoother and transactions cheaper.Church going and worshipping in any form may simply be an efficient way of creating them.
As churches and their parishioners face economic challenges and affecting her spirituality. Worship comes in and enhances a shift of one’s mindset and change your perspective on the world. Worship further push you into your destiny and cleanse you of your past and heals wounds and breaks generational curses.
Possibility is that a church ‘s members enjoy mutual emotional and ( maybe) financial insurance that allows them to recover more quickly from setbacks such as loss of a job than they would without the support of fellow worshippers.
Worship especially organised worship which includes confession of sin ,praise and thanksgiving, music and song and the sharing of the Word of God improves the spirituality of individuals and communities for better.Thus worship and wealth are linked too through education.
This life always fascinates cause the media and general public embrace church or ( the idea of church) during a time of crisis but in times of peace and prosperity,the church seems to become irrelevant again.
Regardless of this double standard,the church keeps people grounded, flushing out the burden of life by providing a bedrock of faith and answers to humanity’s deepest needs.The role of the church is vital as it fills a void that the church can only can.
If a car needs fixing ,it is brought to the mechanic workshop.If someone is sick ,the health centre or hospital is the best place to seek medical attention .The church is where people go if they are in need of a “spiritual fix”.God alone is worthy of our worship.(1Chronicles 16:25)
People need to have their spiritual, emotional and physical needs met.2 Timothy 3:1 says
“But be certain of this, that in the last days times of trouble will come.”
The spirituality of a community is improved in economic difficulties by worship,when the church show God’s love and through economic hardships,the church shines brighter.
Many of our religious teachings from our traditions,offer useful correctives to the practices that can improve the spirituality of community in economic difficulties.The pastoral strategy for financial crisis must be used to develop Christians and hence her spirituality.The church has a mandate to recognise the gospel ‘s message of commitment to and responsibility for others who exists within the context of economic difficulties so as to provide resources and reabsorb.
Working together and learning together and sharing love, praying together are all forms of worship that are vital.Economics is not the monopoly of the economist.How a society organizes the economic activity through worship that sustains life will be rooted on beliefs and values of all its members.As a Christian they rather do not work to earn money for social status rather to help neighbours and give glory to God through worship hence improve one’s spirituality within a community.
It is notably observed that individuals flourish best in a society that defends and uphold oneness and maintains the common good.John 13:34-35,15:9-12; this is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you “.St John, the theologian of charity par excellency states explicitly that charity is not love that is acquired and perfected by purely human effort,it is gift infused in us by God.It makes us one with God through Christ and must then extend to all whom God loves all men in general and our neighbour in particular,by so doing and economical stressed community is rejuvenated .Love of neighbour occuies a central position in Christian spirituality
Human beings actualise their moralselves in making economic choices and through participation in the economic system.Given the reality of human sin ,the economic control should not be in the hands of the few,but distribute economic power to man.Worship entails love and sharing.
Thus worship in economic crises,is vital,as it remind Christians that we are not called to be mere economic actors ,but stewards . Everything we act ,we do and everything we own truly belongs to God and is to be at the disposal of kingdom purposes.This world is not our home and our treasure is not found here .We are to do all,invest all,own all,purchase all to the glory of God.(Al Mohler 2008).
