Masvingo – Roman Catholic priest, Fr Cuthbert Magama Ncube (53) who passed on in Masvingo last week was diagnosed with dysfunctional kidneys that troubled him for two years.
“It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you that Rev Dr Curthbert Magama Ncube has been taken by the Lord this evening,” said Fr Walter Nyastanza.
Dr Magama did his secondary school in Zvishavane at Mandava High School. In 1982 to 1989 he did his training at Chishawasha Major Seminary. From 1990 to 1993 he was at the University of Zimbabwe. He was ordained as a Diaconate in 1992 at St Mary’s Senga in Gweru. He was ordained as a priest in 1994 at St Joseph Zvishavane.
He did his Pastoral year at Silveira Mission in Bikita in 1995 and was transferredto Mutero Mission in 1996. He was posted to Botswana as Fide donum priest; Rector and vocations Promoter. In 2003 to 2005 he was spiritual director of St Monica Guild and he then transferred again to Kenya from 2005 to 2007 as a licenciate in Sacred Theology at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
In 2008 to 2012 he did PHD in Theology, also lecturing at CUEA.
Fr Magama was appointed organizing Secretary of Canon Law and Theological Commission. In 2013 he was Promoter of Lay Apostolate, Evangelisation, Catechesis and Catechetics.
“He fell ill when he was on holiday in South Africa and Fr Raymond Mahefu went and fetched him to Harare where he was admitted at West End Hospital.
It was realised both his kidneys were dysfunctional and he needed dialysis first once a week then twice a week and in the later weeks three times a week.
“Doctors recommended kidney transplant only when he became stable. The situation was soaring up and down until it deteriorated,”’ said Fr Nyastanza.
Fr Magama was laid to rest Gokomere Mission last Wednesday. https://masvingomirror.com
