MUTARE-Relegated Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) side Tenax FC chairperson Stephani Masina said the team will continue to exist despite reports that all prisons teams will merged next year. There are reports that ZPCS has decided to merge Tenax FC and Whahwa FC into one, but Masina said it has not been finalized by the relevant offices yet. He went on to urge soccer lovers in the province to rally behind Manica Diamonds and newly promoted Greenfuel FC.
“We are waiting for the relevant offices to finalise. A meeting will be held soon but the chances of disbanding the team are slim if not next to zero. Tenax will be there to live. We tried our best but resources failed us. It was a good learning season for all of us.
“We also would like to thank the people of Mutare for being a united family in support of us. Let’s support our remaining two teams-Manica Diamond and Green Fuel,” said Masina.
Tenax FC finished seventeenth on the log table after 34 rounds of matches. The ‘prison boys’ gathered 30 points from 7 wins, 9 draws and 18 loses. Tenax FC which was formed 12 years ago got promoted into top flight league in 2019 after spending much of it’s time plying it’s trade in the first division.
Since it’s promotion, the team has been struggling financially and had its proverbial last supper in the Castle Laager Premier Soccer League on Sunday against Manica Diamonds. It found the going tough in the big boys league.
Interestingly this season, each region lost a team each- Southern and Northern regions had municipal cousins Bulawayo City and Harare City relegated respectively, while Eastern and Central regions had prisons and correctional services sides Tenax and Whawha chopped.
