MIDLANDS – TelOne FC has won the first cup competition to be introduced in the Central Region.
It won the lyawozve Champions Cup after beating Army side Chapungu in the finals by 2 goals to 1 at a match played at Ascot Stadium in Gweru recently.
Goals by League top goal scorer Blessing Sahondo and Blessing Sibanda were enough to seal the cup for the Wi-Fi boys as they are affectionately known in the region.
This is the first cup in the region and this year’s edition was supposed to feature the first and second placed teams in the league and in this case, Sheasham.
There are no reasons given as to why Sheasham pulled out of the cup.
The two top team are however, contesting the top position administratively with TelOne accusing top team Sheasham of using an unregistered player during the season.
TelOne has appealed to the Player’s Status Committee over the ineligibility of Tawana Chikore who played 5 games for Sheasham including a one all draw against TelOne.
TelOne President Lloyd Mutetwa expressed his happiness for clinching the title.
