Teachers abandon marking as they fail to get allowances

Mirror Reporter
Harare – Marking of O and A Level Zimsec exams was stopped abruptly at various centres in Harare and Bulawayo today after some teachers only got a third of their Travel and Subsistence allowances.
Markers at Mt Pleasant High, Allan Wilson, Belvedere Teachers’ College and in Bulawayo were asked out of school premises and halls were locked after they started demonstrations.
Efforts to get a comment from Zimsec were fruitless.
However, The Mirror has it from reliable sources that the teachers started getting their allowances on their phones this morning and they realized that they were being given RTGS$7 000. Other centres which had already received the allowances got between RTGS$27 000 and $30 000.
This incensed the markers who responded by abandoning the marking and staging demonstrations. The teachers were told that the issue is going to be resolved tomorrow.
