Target Kopje ‘robbers’ remanded to April 7

MASVINGO – Four suspected robbers who left Masvingo businessman Obvious Nhokovedza in hospital and his wife Rutendo Ndega dead have been remanded in custody to April 7, 2021.
The four appeared at Masvingo Magistrates Court before Magistrate Bishard Chineka on Thursday facing attempted murder and robbery charges but the case could not proceed because their lawyer Phillip Shumba of Mutendi Mudisi and Shumba Legal Practitioners could not be in court.
Shepherd Chinhara (44), Needmore Chipoterwa(28) and Edson Donza (26) are being represented by Shumba while Kudakwashe Nyashanu(37), is representing himself.
This is the second time that the trial is being postponed. On March 18, 2021 Nyashanu forced a postponement after he asked for two days to prepare his defense outline.
The suspects broke into Nhokovedza’s house in Mucheke and assaulted his wife while waiting for him to return from work.
They are said to have assaulted Nhokovedza when he returned home and collected grocery valued at ZWL$870960-00 including a Nissan Caravan and stripped the couple of R800, $15 000 in Eco Cash, $500 000 and US$4 000 in bank cards.
They took them to an open mining shaft behind Wimpy, Masvingo and threw the couple into the 20m deep shaft. The couple were retrieved the following morning after a passer-by noticed them and the wife died on arrival at Masvingo Provincial Hospital from injuries.
