MASVINGO – The Mirror held its end of year party at a farm in Gutu two days before Christmas and the organisation took the opportunity to recognise its best performing workers.
The party which was held on December 21, 2022 was sponsored by Friends of The Mirror.
Three staffers were recognised for their sterling work and Midlands Bureau Chief, Sydney Mubaiwa was adjudged worker of the year. He walked away with US$200 cash.
Mirror consultant, Matthew Takaona said Mubaiwa was recognised for the marketing and editorial inroads he made in 2022. He said that although Mubaiwa is a journalist he adapted well to the company’s multi-skilling policy.
Mubaiwa was the best marketer, bringing several new advertisers into the company’s fold. He got new big advertisers from Gokwe and Kwekwe where The Mirror recently expanded its coverage to. He also wrote more stories than any other journalist and Takaona commented the stories for being relevant.
The second best worker of the year is Rashid Saidi, the company’s production editor who walked away with US$150.
He was recognised for his quality page layouts and designs and his ability to contain and run an understaffed department. He was also noted for discipline and dedication to work.
Prisca Kondongwe was adjudged the second runner-up. She is in the digital news department where she diligently posted The Mirror’s hourly stories. The Mirror is now operating on a free newspaper model where news is for free and adverts are paid for.
She walked away with US$100.
